This book is about mathematics on the level for grade five. It is dedicated to a comprehensive coverage of the arithmetic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and exponentiation, including their properties as well as other fundamental concepts typically required for elementary arithmetic course of two-semester duration. The primary aim is to build a solid foundation on which 5th grade pupils can acquire the aptitude and preparation necessary to successfully continue the study of mathematics in upper classes. The book is similar in many respects to “Modern Mathematics for Community Elementary Schools (Grade 5): Teacher’s Edition.” However, unlike the Teacher’s Edition, it doesn’t contain solutions and answers to the problems and exercises found at the end of every chapter. Notwithstanding, it does contain ample example problems with answers and explanations. The textbook is recommended not only for 5th grade pupils and their teachers, but also for an adult literacy program in which basic mathematics concepts and skills set are taught. I hope that “Modern Mathematics for Community Elementary Schools: (Grade 5)” would be a contribution to the development and improvement of community primary school curriculum on elementary mathematics.
